Krishi Vigyan Kendras are an integral part of the National Agricultural Research System (NARS) and aims at assessment of location specific technology modules in agriculture and allied enterprises, through technology assessment, refinement, and demonstrations. KVKs have been functioning as Knowledge and Resource Centre of agricultural technology supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector for improving the agricultural economy of the district and are linking the NARS with extension system and farmers. In our state too, twenty-three Krishi Vigyan Kendras are functioning under Assam Agricultural University and engaged in the technology assessment & refinement, capacity building programmes, demonstrations, hand holding in group mobilization, women empowerment, creating avenues for rural youths and overall growth and development of the state in general and the district in particular. For the effective impact of the programmes, it is important to plan the activities of the KVKs based on the need and its feasibility considering the agro-ecological situations and socio-economic conditions of the area under operation. This demands the mapping of the resources of the district so that the efforts become result oriented and reach the end users. An attempt is therefore made to compile and publish information of the Kokrajhar district in a meaningful and comprehensive way. The inventory primarily encompasses the information regarding the geography of the district, basic data about population, agriculture & allied activities, institutional resources, government schemes under implementation and other information pertinent to the holistic growth of the district. I take this opportunity to congratulate the efforts made by the scientists of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kokrajhar for collecting, compiling, and publishing this huge information in a systematic manner. It is expected that the compilation will serve as a base for planning and implementing the activities of agriculture and line departments in general and aid in framing the action plan of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra effectively.
